One of the most important keys to duck hunting success is being able to keep yourself hidden from birds until the very last second.

In some places you can get this done with natural cover, but most of the time you're going to need a blind to hide you and all of your gear.

So here's the real question...

What type of blind do you need?

Types of Duck Hunting Blinds

Duck hunting blinds come in a few different styles that work great for different situations...

For field hunting there's a handful of different options:

Panel Blinds

A-Frame Blinds

Layout Blinds

Ghillie Blankets

Hunting over water can use the same field options, but also adds in a few others:

Boat & Kayak Blinds

Marsh Blinds

Marsh Seats

Panel/A-Frame Blind vs Layout Blind

The most common blinds for field hunting are panel blinds, A-frame blinds and layout blinds.

While the mechanics might be a little bit different, panel blinds and A-frames are basically the same from the perspective of the birds....

So they have a lot of the same pros and cons.

The biggest upside is that they have so much room for people, dogs and gear.

Making them some of the most comfortable blinds yo u can get.

If you're needing to hide a big group, an A-Frame is the no brainer.

But the downside is that they can stick out like a sore thumb in a field and have a ton of surface area to brush in.

Also, they aren't the easiest things to move around

On the other end of the spectrum are layout blinds.

They have an extremely low profile making them less suspicious than panel blinds.

To add to that, they are extremely light weight, so getting them into where you're hunting is a breeze.

The flip side is that they don't have a ton of space on the inside and only fit one person, so you'll need multiple for hunting with a group.

Every hunting situation is different and will need a different set up to work best...

But in general the most versatile style of blind is the layout blind.

Best Ghillie Blanket for Duck Hunting

Ghillie blankets are a newer style of blind for hunters that like to be mobile.

Because they're so light and easy to pack, some hunters will just keep one in their truck so they can get a quick hunt in on the way to work!

For most hunters this is

The light weight design makes getting set up an absolute breeze!

Another big plus of this ghillie blanket is the mesh viewing window so you can keep your face hidden while still watching birds working the decoys.

One draw back is that you're going to have to pair them with some kind of chair to sit or lay on.

For Run-and-Gun hunters, Tangle Free pairs this with a blind chair that doubles as a decoy bag! You can check it out HERE
