In this post, you'll learn the best Mallard decoys and which ones are best for your situation.
These days dewcoys come in all different shapes and sizes

Swimming decoys that might fool your buddy into thinking there's a bird in the spread...
And silhouettes that can fit 4 dozen decoys in to one bag!
They all have their place for the waterfowl hunter
Whether you want to run a giant spread without breaking the bank or just need to add that extra touch of realism to your spread
These decoys are the best of the best!
Best Mallard Floating Decoys
Dakota X-treme Flocked Head Mallard Duck Decoys
It's safe to say that floating decoys are the primary style of decoy most hunters use.
More birds will get dropped over floaters this fall than any other type of decoy, so this is the top of the list
Dakota decoy has been kicking out great decoys for years and they aren't stopping anytime soon.
The reason we picked this as the top floating decoy is simply because it combines realism AND value.
There's one other decoy that I think sticks out as more realistic, BUUUUUTTTT you're going to have to pay for that extra realism.
The Dakota's are 90% as realistic at a much more manageable price point for the majority of duck hunters.
Most Versatile Mallard Decoys
Heyday Flocked Head Mallards
Heyday took a step in an interesting direction by making a conversion kit so you can use their standard mallard floaters as a full body decoy.
Because of the foam they use for their decoys and the unique shape their able to use, you can easily convert floating decoys into full body decoys!
This versatility is going to be most useful for guys who run dry fields AND hunt over water throughout the season.

Best Mallard Motion Decoys
Higdon Pulsator PRO
Motion decoys are a great way to finish birds once they're in close.
They add an extra element of realism to convince weary birds to drop their feet!
What sets the Higdon Pulsator apart is that it isn't so much motion that it's going to flare birds at the last second...
While still being less subtle than a swimmer decoy.
On top of that, it's small and easy to pack so it's not taking up too much valuable space in your bag.
Most Realistic Mallard Decoys
Dave Smith Decoys (DSD) A.C.E. Mallards
Dave Smith Decoys are still the king of the hill.
These hyper-realistic decoys start to blur the line between a decoy and a work of art.
Will all that extra realism help you draw in weary birds?
Of course!
But they're not cheap!
So these aren't the best option for most hunters, buuuutt if you have the extra money lying around, these are definitely the way to go.
Best Mallard Silhouette Decoys
Divebomb Fully Flocked Mallard Silhouettes
Divebomb is one of the most recognized brand in waterfowl today...
And they absolutely crushed it with these silos.
Their Fully Flocked Mallard silhouettes are the top of the line for Mallard Silhouettes.
Not only do they look great, but you can get a discount if you buy them in bulk!
So if you need to add a few more bodies to your spread this fall, give these a look.
Best Mallard Windsock Decoys
Tanglefree Drake Slammer Socks w/ Flocked 3d Head
What really makes these socsk stand out is the 3D head!
It adds just that little extra bit of realism over a headless sock finish birds when they get in close.
Like all windsocks, if you're wanting to add more bulk to your spread on a budget this fall, this is the way to go!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who makes the best mallard decoys?
"Best" depends on who's asking.
The most realistic decoys are DSD A.C.E. series of decoys.
For most hunters, that extra realism just simply isn't worth the extra price tag.
As far as most bang for your buck, Dakota Decoys get you as close to the realism of DSD's while still not costing as much.
How many mallard decoys do you need?
Unfortunately, the short answer is it depends.
You can shoot birds with a dozen decoys.
You can also shoot birds with 4 or 5 dozen decoys.
The big things are: obviously how pressured the birds are, how realistic your decoys are and if your spread has any motion in it
A small spread with flocked decoys and a splasher decoy is going to give you really good chances no matter what.
What is the most durable duck decoy?
Heyday Mallard Decoys are the most durable decoys you can buy.
You can step on them, shoot them, it doesn't matter...
They're still ready to go!
Can you use too many duck decoys?
Theoretically, there's eventually a point where you have too many decoys.
If you have so many decoys that birds can land in your decoys out of shotgun range, then you have to many.
For most people, there's no way they'll logistically hit this point.
Are foam-filled duck decoys better?
Foam filled duck decoys are definitely more durable than standard decoys.
The trade off is that they are a little heavier, which can be a deal breaker if you're a walk in hunter.
