A saddle platform is a vital part of your saddle hunting gear and can really affect how comfortable you are & how long you stay in the saddle.
Whether you're brand new to saddle hunting or are an experienced hunter looking to dial in your set up with a new platform we’ve got you covered.
What To Look For In A Saddle Platform
When it comes to looking for saddle platforms there's 3 main things you need to look for to make sure you're getting the right saddle platform for you.
These are all going to vary a little bit from person to person based on preferences but overall these will give you a good idea of what to look for
Weight
Right out of the gate the first thing you'll notice is the weight.
So depending on how you plan on Saddle hunting this can make a big difference or it can be something that really doesn't matter for you.
If you're wanting to be able to hike in further and get away from the crowds and you're wanting to really keep the weight down there's going to be some light weight options out there for you that'll help keep that pack weight down.
Now this obviously comes with some drawbacks.
The two main things are usually the lightweight platforms are smaller in size overall and then on top of that you start having a balance in your budget.
The lightest platforms are usually more expensive because they're using newer technology and better materials.
Size
Next thing you're going to be looking for is the size of the platform.
Again this starts bringing in some personal preference.
If you prefer to have the lightest platform possible you're going to be able to go down to a smaller platform and that's going to be the deciding factor for you.
If you don't really care about weight as much and you're wanting to be a little price conscious you can get a midsize platform.
Or if you're newer to saddle hunting and you're wanting to have the most space available so you can have the most options to be comfortable, you can go with one of the extra large platforms.
Now going to one of those bigger platforms he's going to be a little bit heavier so you're going to be sacrificing some weight there but that may be the way to go for you.
Weight cap
This may not apply to everybody but it's definitely something to keep in mind.
All of these platforms have a weight rating for what weight capacity they can handle.
Some of the lighter weight ones have a much lower weight capacity.
Some of them are down as low as 250 pounds which if you're a slightly bigger guy and you're carrying your pack up there you're going to be pushing the limits on that.
For me specifically, the 250 lb weight limit wouldn't work.
For the most part the average weight capacities around 300 lb which covers the majority of people.
If you're a bigger guy though and you need a little bit more weight capacity there are some that go up to 350.
I made sure to highlight that here on a saddle platform built for bigger guys.
Budget
Last but not least the enemy of every Hunter: budget.
So this is really going to be the deciding factor on some of these.
If you want the lightest weight platform you can find it's going to be more expensive, right.
If you're okay having a little bit heavier platform, carrying in an extra pound or two then you can save yourself a couple hundred bucks on the platform.
This is really going to be the balancing point that makes or breaks this on making it fit into your entire saddle hunting kit.
Once you've kind of balanced all of those out these are going to be the best saddle hunting platforms for 2026
Best XL Tree Saddle Platform
Trophyline Mission Platform
Size: 17.9" x 13.8"
Weight: 5.4 lbs
Weight Cap: 300 Lb
For saddle hunters that are wanting a little bit of extra space up there, especially if you have big feet, this is going to be the platform for you. It's enormous compared to most platforms
It's going to give you a lot of different options of where to stand while you're in the tree making sure you're getting all the different shot angles you need
Now this isn't really a surprise, one drawback is it's definitely going to be heavier. Compared to the lightest platform on this list, it's twice as heavy but it gives you a ton of surface area to work with
I like this for people with bigger feet but also for newer saddle Hunters
Having that extra space really helps you be more comfortable up in the tree as you're getting your feet under you and then as you progress you can move to one of the lighter weight platforms if you want to
If you're not super concerned about the weight I would definitely give this a look
Best Lightweight Tree Saddle Platform
Trophyline HyperLite Platform
Size: 12” x 12”
Weight: 2.1 lbs
Weight cap: 300 lbs
Trophy line made the entire HyperLite line with the goal of being the lightest saddle platform you can find. And they succeeded, the Hyperlite platform is the lightest platform you can find on the market right now
This is great for anyone that plans on hiking far away from the crowds trying to find that monster buck hidden back there
It's just over 2 lb so you'll barely even notice it there
But like I said before, lightweight does come with a price tag…
This is on the higher end for platform prices
It's also not the biggest platform, it's not the smallest by any means but not the biggest right in that average size range but super light
If you're dedicated to having a light set up and you're willing to pay a little bit extra this is going to be the platform for you
If you're really concerned about pack weight I would also pair this with the HyperLite climbing sticks
Again same thing, super lightweight material to keep the weight down and help you get that extra mile away from the truck.
Best Tree Saddle Platform For Big Guys
Trophyline The Rival Platform
Size: 13.8” x 13.8”
Weight: 4.8 lbs
Weight cap: 350 lbs
Across the board, the Rival series from Trophyline is one of the strongest on the market.
For anyone who needs higher weight capacity, the Rival is the go to, with an extra 50 lbs of strength rating compared to other platforms
Going a step further, the Rival even has a larger platform base than other standard size platforms
The one downside is the overall weight of the platform at almost 5 lbs
But for the strength and the price, the Rival can't be beat
If you're a bigger guy that needs the extra weight capacity, make sure to check out the Rival Climbing Sticks too
Best Budget Tree Saddle Platform
TETHRD Workhorse Saddle Platform
Size: 11.75"L x 11.75"W
Weight: 3.56 lbs
Weight cap: 300 lbs
TETHRD designed the entire Workhorse line to be an easy entry point for new saddle Hunters. The Workhorse platform is basically right in the middle of the entire spectrum. It's at a budget-friendly price, it's not the biggest platform you're going to find but it's also not smallest. it's not the lightest platform but it's not back breaking.
If you're looking for an easy platform to just get up and get going this is going to be a good platform for you.
At the same time if you just don't want to spend a lot of time going back and forth on the platform and don't want to put a lot of thought into it again this is going to be a great easy way to get going
TETHRD Predator V Platform
Regular
Size: 11.5” x 11.5”
Weight: 2.3 lbs
Weight cap: 300 lbs
XL
Size: 12” x 15.5”
Weight: 3.25
Weight Cap: 300 lbs
The Predator is TETHRD's Flagship platform this is the platform that they've been selling for years
It's an updated version of some new materials to help keep weight down
One thing to point out here you can get this platform to two different sizes
So your regular size is one of the lighter platforms out there 2.3 lb
if you're concerned about space you can go up to the XL which is still pretty light only 3.25 lb but gives you a lot more surface area up in the tree
Both of them are great platforms
Very middle of the road as far as price point and size
If there's nothing specific you're looking for like being lightweight or being super budget friendly this is the best platform you can grab
