Best Saddle Hunting Kits

Updated: 4 days ago

Getting into saddle hunting can be a little bit overwhelming with all the different pieces of equipment you really need to to get going in also to stay safe while you do it.

One of the easiest ways to get into saddle hunting, just like anything else, is to start with a kit that has the gear you need all bundled up together

So in this article we're going to cover the best saddle hunting kits you can buy to you make sure you're not miss anything

What to Look For in a Saddle Hunting Kit

Saddle hunting has what seems like a million and one different pieces of equipment to keep you safe up in a tree. Some of them are essential, some of them are just nice to have.

What we’ll go through are some of the main things to keep an eye out for when you're looking for saddle hunting kits and what is going to really make a difference for you up in the tree.

Saddle

First and foremost you obviously need a saddle. This is going to be what you actually sit in and what is going to keep you attached to the tree.

Because of that, it's a pretty important piece of equipment you want to make sure you're getting one that is quality from a reputable company and that has a high enough weight rating to hold you and your gear going up the tree.

Ropes

After your saddle, the next most important piece of equipment is going to be your ropes. These are what keeps your saddle and your ass attached to the tree.

First you have a lineman’s rope. This is the rope you use as you're climbing up the tree just in case you slip or something, it keeps you connected to the tree.

Once you're actually up in the tree then you'll use your tether.

this is what your Saddles attached while you're sitting up there.

Also this is the one that goes above your head so in case you slip or anything it catches you

Pouches

Now you obviously have a limited space up in a tree from here so another important piece of your saddle setup is going to be pouches.

Some saddles, like the Tethrd Workhorse, have pouches sewn in but most are going to have removable pouches that you can set up how you see fit for your hunting Style.

These are what's really going to help keep you organized on your saddle.

A lot of times people will store their ropes in these so as they're going up they have their tether tucked away and then once they get up there they pull the tether out and tuck away their lineman’s rope.

Climbing Sticks & Platforms

This is where you get into a bit of a gray area with saddle kits.

Most saddle hunting kits have a saddle, ropes, and pouches…

Some of them will have accessories like a back band but that's about it

There are probably one or two you can find out there that will include climbing sticks and a platform.

Climbing sticks and a platform are 100% necessary to saddle hunt but for whatever reason it's tough to find saddle hunting kits that also include these

Some companies will sell them and label it a complete kit and that helps.

really I think the main reason that they don't include these is that these are the two most expensive pieces of saddle hunting gear…

And your platform might cost as much as the rest of your kit combined (especially if you get a lightweight one) so it could be something to do with that.

It’s not like you can’t just order all of this at once even if it’s not in a kit but having it all pulled together can be a little simpler for beginners so I will include a complete kit that has everything up on the up at once.

Best Tree Saddle Hunting Kit

Trophyline Nimbus Pro Saddle Kit

The Nimbus Pro is designed as Trophyline's comfort focused saddle.

It has a 2- way stretch fabric to make all day sits a breeze

On top of that, it comes in 3 sizes to get the perfect fit for every hunter

Made to be breathable in the early season and fit around your extra layers in the late season

The Nimbus Pro Kit comes with the Nimbus Pro saddle, 2 round pouches, Trophyline lineman's rope, Trophyline tree tether, and 2 locking carabiners

All of that is pretty standard except for the pouches…

Trophyline went above and beyond for the pouches, adding a fleece lining to the inside of the pouches to cut down on noise.

If you’re just getting into saddle hunting this is a great kit to get started with.

All you need to add is climbing sticks & a platform and you're good to go!

Best Tree Saddle Kit For The Money

Tethrd Workhorse Saddle Kit

Tethrd designed the Workhorse line to be exactly that: a Workhorse!

It’s streamlined to stay budget friendly for the newer saddle hunters

They really wanted to emphasize function, not the extra bells and whistles

What makes this set up nice for beginners is the integrated pockets so you don't have to add those on.

The downside to that is you aren’t able to customize your set up as much.

But these pockets are oversized so they hold all of the gear you need, giving you quick access.

On the back there are oversized loops to help carry any extras up the tree, these work great for attaching your platform and climbing sticks as you’re going up.

Best Lightweight Tree Saddle Kit

Trophyline Covert Ultra Hunting Saddle Kit

This saddle is for the hunters that want to save ounces for those long walks in, far from the competition

Trophyline really focused on cutting down weight on this one.

It’s 40% lighter than its predecessor, coming in at 23 Oz for saddle and bridge

Where they were able to save a lot of weight was using lighter materials and downsizing the buckles.

To keep it comfortable, they extended the back of the saddle up a little to give you more low back support.

One thing I really like is the 2 rows of MOLLE webbing on the back of the saddle so you can add different attachments for your hunting style or for attaching your platform & climbing sticks as you get in the tree.

You can get the Covert Ultra as a stand alone saddle or as a kit.

With the kit you also get your ropes and 2 pouches.

Like the pouches on Trophyline’s other kits, the pouches are fleece lined which helps to cut down on noise.

If you’re really wanting to make a super light weight saddle hunting bundle, combine this with Trophyline’s Hyperlite climbing sticks & Hyperlite platform.

That combo is going to be the lightest you can pull together, making it a little easier to go that extra mile (literally!)

Best Complete Saddle Hunting Kit

XOP Full Rut Saddle Hunting System

This is an actual complete saddle hunting kit where you're getting everything you need, you're getting your saddle, ropes, climbing sticks, platform and even a backpack to carry it all

Plus some hooks to hold your gear, like your bow, while you’re in the tree.

If you’re looking to grab all of the basics you need for saddle hunting, this is your kit!

This kit is built around the XOP Mutant Saddle which is focused specifically on all day comfort.

For most saddle hunters looking for a kit, this is going to be a big key to staying out there longer
